Mentor Text: Max's Words and Hop and Win Giveway

I love talking about, reading, and sharing books, which is why I love Amanda & Stacia's Must Read Mentor Text Linky!

Max's Words is the book for you if you want to get your students excited about new vocabulary or motivated to write! Max starts his own unique collection of words: big words, little words, good and bad, words that are spoken to him, words that he didn't know before, and all other kinds of words. Throughout the book, Max realizes that words have meaning. He starts to rearrange words and creates sentences then goes on to add more and more, until he finally ends up with his very own story. This book is full of creativity and realistic illustrations. This book will be the hook to get my students to want to "expand" their collection of words
This book is definitely captivating and enjoyable to read!

I will be using this text to introduce my Expand a Word Vocabulary Word Work center and Jivey's Mentor Sentences this week-anxious to try her sentences with my class! (thanks Christy for reminding me of this book!).

My Expand-a-Word is the perfect opportunity to introduce plurals, prefixes & suffixes, spelling patterns, and new vocabulary. Great for centers, whole or small group instruction, partners, or enrichment homework!
The idea of this center is to "expand" the letters on the card with changing the order. Letters can be inserted in front, in between, and after the letters from the card to make new words.

I modeled how to use my word work center last week whole group and my students loved it! They thought they were playing a game, so I know they'll be excited to have this in a center this week!
My students will start their collection of words like Max!
