Spark Student Motivation: Five Things For Only $1 to Motivate Your Students!

It's almost back to school for me! Teachers return Monday, students the following Monday!
I want to share some simple ideas/finds that can motivate your students!
All of these items were purchased at one of my favorite stores...Dollar Tree! Sometimes it's just the simple things to get students excited!
**I do not get paid to advertise for Dollar Tree nor do I work for them, although I'm there enough that the store manager will ask me if I clocked in when he sees me! :)
I found these in the toy aisle (see kids will think they're "toys", but they're actually learning devices!).
I usually try to have a few of these in my prize box at all times. Why? What else would you do with a "book" light? READ! Win-Win!
Tickets are used daily in my classroom. I use a lot more in the beginning of the year, passing them out for everything, to get them hooked!
Kids love rolling dice! They immediately feel like they're playing a "game". See? Tricking them again! Solicit student responses for ideas for dice-they're very creative! Example for vocabulary review: 1-spell it, 2-synonym, 3-antonym, 4-use in a sentence, 5-part of speech, 6-analogy.
These are the BEST! Read more here about how I use these in my classroom! I just recently found these at Dollar Tree-it's a steal!

I hope you find some of these ideas useful for your classroom! I'd love to know what you think or if you have any other ideas of how to use these items-please share in the comments!

I hope you had a wonderful week! Please link up any lessons, ideas, tips, tricks, incentives, ANYTHING you do get your students motivated or excited!

  1. Joanne,
Tooo funny about Dollar Tree. I feel like they should sponsor me to post all the stuff I get there. I even have th manager of my local store on my FB page! I love using the tickets from there to motivate students. I hand them out once a week if students get a perfect score on daily math and then again if they remember to bring their weekly math summary signed by a parent. I put them in a prize box and do a draw on Thursday for rewards (sit with a friend, use the laptop, etc.). The KIDS love it! I hope you like what I linked up, it's my back to school survival kit..and YES I got the materials from Dollar Tree!

  2. I am all about finding "thrifty" ways to motivate my middle school students! I think they would totally go for the finger flashlights. I will add them to the things they can earn with their point sheets. :)
