Five For Friday: Marshmallow Challenge, 6 Word Memoirs, and More!

Linking up with Doodle Bugs For Teaching to share my week!

The BEST part of my week was my BBB Jivey visiting me for the weekend! We talked, laughed, and shared stories like we've been friends for years! I SO WISH she lived closer!
We had a great day at Universal Studios-wasn't crowded and the weather was perfect!
I loved that the conversation was so easy and we could hang out and just watch a movie or football (she and my husband were screaming for her Bulldogs!) She just fit in like family and I was sad to see her go, but I KNOW we will meet up again!!! My daughter loved her!
Isn't it amazing what a little duct tape will do to a metal cabinet? I wanted to make this cabinet look a little more decorative! Yes this is polka dot duct tape-I love the way it looks! This is our Interactive Figurative Language Bulletin Board-we keep track of all our findings here!
For a fun team building activity, my students participated in the Marshmallow Challenge! Each group only got to use 20 spaghetti sticks, a yard of masking tape, and a marshmallow to build the tallest free standing structure (marshmallow had to be on top).
There was cheering and moaning as structures were built or collapsed!
 It took some problem solving!
And TEAMWORK!
They loved it!

Here are our 6 Word Memoirs...

They did a beautiful job on them! It's pretty difficult to condense your life story in six words!
I typed their memoirs and put a photo on each page.
Here are some of my favorites...

Pretty deep thinking for fourth grade right?!?!

I'm linking up my next goodie with my friends Sarah and Courtney from Hoots N' Hollers!

One of my students actually found these at Walmart!
Best part...they are sticky notes! I thought the speech bubbles would perfect for a lesson on dialogue and the thumbs up could be used for me or my students to give out for a job well done! So cute!

One of my BBBs Diane from Fifth in the Middle is having an awesome giveaway!
You have to check it out!

I hope you had a great week! If you have an idea, tip, lesson, or incentive that you've used or plan to use, I hope to see you at my linky party tomorrow!

Congratulations Mary! You won my new product Building Words Pack!

  1. Yay!! I linked up right before you.:) I LOVE the 6 word memoirs! That's awesome!
I am totally stealing your interactive idea for the figurative language wall. We are starting poetry and figurative language in two weeks.

  2. I love what you have done with the tape on that cabinet - that will be my job this week to find some gorgeous tape and update mine.

  3. I just love your kids' words summing up life--great stuff! Thanks also for sharing your find, as I will have to run out and pick some up this weekend. So glad you enjoyed your visit with Jivey--sounds like good times to remember... :0)

  4. I love the team building activity. I'll have to use that.

The memoirs remind me of your 'Hope' display. LOVE it! I might compile the ideas in a Haiku Deck presentation. I've pinned it.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  5. Wow! Those 6 word memoirs are fantastic. I am constantly amazing at what our kids can do when we give them the chance. Plus, I love the 'thumbs up' post-its. Such a fun way to celebrate a student's success! :)

  6. Love the thumbs up post-it! I'd like to use them in small group for Agree/Disagree (you can just turn it upside down for the disagree). Too bad they aren't just a little smaller for marking text.
