Spark Student Motivation: Compliments Galore!

Happy Saturday friends! I hope you had a wonderful week! Did you motivate a student, your class, a colleague? Please share with us!
Let's motivate each other and our students!
To encourage my students to work together to earn compliments, I designed a simple chart to hold our compliments each time we receive one.
Each time another teacher compliments our class on our line, lunchroom behavior, special area, or anytime outside of our class, we get a sticker for our chart.
*Administrators count as two stickers. :O)
I let my class vote on the incentive they'll receive when they fill the sheet...these are the three ideas my class has on the table so far:
1. Popcorn party
2. Recess
3. Brownies
We have five left to earn our reward! (It's harder sometimes for intermediate students to receive compliments on their line, so I want to motivate them to be extra good so we can earn one).
You can start off small with only having to earn 10 compliments.
And build up to working for 30 compliments.
Working together to achieve this goal promotes TEAMWORK! It takes the entire class working together to get noticed.
Would you like a set of these Compliments Galore tracking sheets to MOTIVATE your students to display great behavior outside of your class?
I hope you had a wonderful week! Please link up any lessons, ideas, tips, tricks, incentives, ANYTHING you do or plan to do to get your students motivated or excited!

  1. Joanne,

I love your sticker chart idea! I recently started rewarding my class for getting compliments as well. Love your blog! I was excited to participate in your Spark Student Motivation Saturday for the first time!

  2. This is such a great idea. I am going to head to your Facebook page to print it off now. I think my kiddos ideas for filling the chart would be very similar to your classes.

  3. I'm sure you've heard of "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" -- this kind of reminds me of that. It's important to fill each other's "bucket" every day with compliments and good feelings. Awesome idea, Joanne!

  4. I use a compliments reward system as well. We word towards filling a clear jar with colorful marbles. I like the sticker chart because they can actually count out how many they need to reach their goal. Great idea!

  5. This will be great for my classroom! We are struggling with our voice levels in the hallway. This is a really positive way to reinforce the skill. :) Also, I just saw your score board idea, and I cannot wait to start. You have SO many awesome motivation ideas - thank you. The behavior management of 5th grade has totally thrown me for a loop, so I really appreciate all of the ideas.

  6. Can I compliment your class over the internet so they can earn a sticker.....please? My compliment is that they do amazing work and give wonderful examples for the other teachers and students around the world to follow. That's big stuff right there! You can tell them it's from that crazy Ms. Rose up in the Panhandle and then you can have a whole geography lesson. It totally goes with the 4th grade standards. You might as well just sign up for a field trip to come to the Beach to give them a real life experience-geography lesson. P.S. Our 5th grade field trip is probably going to be to Sea World for the day and spending the night inside the park. I have begged not to have to sleep in the shark habitat.
