Workshop Wednesday: Word Work

I'm linking up with my BBB Jivey for her Workshop Wednesday-this week's topic is Word Work.

I LOVE any kind of word work activity! Building words, making new and better words, synonyms/antonyms, all of it! They're like brainteasers to me!
One of my centers each week is a Word Work activity-students need constant exposure to new vocabulary words, prefixes, suffixes, antonyms, synonyms, spelling patterns, etc. I try to make this center a hands on, fun, and engaging activity!
I made a "Building Words" activity a few years ago because I teach 4th grade and I wanted my students to have opportunities to make bigger words and work on prefixes and suffixes too.

I always offer incentives for students to create words with 5+ letters to promote deeper thinking.
There are 30 spaces for new words and I differentiate by requiring my struggling students to make at least 20, middle 25, and higher students 30+.
I always model this activity a few times before leaving this in a center. It's a perfect opportunity to introduce plurals, prefixes, suffixes, and spelling patterns. My students LOVE this activity! They enjoy working with their friends and learning new words from each other. Each page has letters that make a "big or mystery" word-which is always a fun challenge for my students!
I always have dictionaries available at the center for students to confirm spelling or dispute a word.
My favorite part of this word work center is all you need is one sheet per person and a pair of scissors! All letters are located at the bottom of the page and can be cut with straight cuts, no scraps of paper everywhere! (I hate a messy center! :O) )

So excited that I finally listed this product so.........everyone who links up with my BBB Jivey today for her Workshop Wednesday gets this product for FREE!
