My sweet friend Jivey is hosting her Workshop Wednesday again...Math Card Games!
One of my favorite card games is 24.
There are many different 24 games and each set has 3 levels of difficulty-this is the single digit set.
You can add, subtract, multiply and divide, but you do not have to use all four operations. You have to use all four numbers on the card, but use each number only once. For each card there may be several ways to solve for 24. I accept all answers and encourage them to come up with different solutions. Let's try some!
First card (white dot-easy)
7 - 4= 3
5 + 3= 8
3 x 8= 24
Second card (2 dots-medium)
7 + 5= 12
3 - 1= 2
12 x 2= 24
Third card (3 dots-difficult)
You try this one! Leave answer in the comments section if you solve!!!
I use this whole group and with partners. It's a great way to get your students thinking and start that brain up for math time! My kids beg to play 24!

My kiddos love this game too. It is a favorite every year. I sent you an e-mail about the giveaway on my blog. Let me know if you didn't receive it and I will send it again. :) Thanks again for being willing to help!

I am glad I found out about this game - I have some classroom money to spend and would love to buy more math activities for centers or guided math rotations. Thanks for sharing more ideas that I can steal for next year!
ReplyDeleteI love this game:) I have a set in my cart in Amazon and totally forgot about it:) My students were introduced to it in STEM lab and they really like it and it really helps them speed up their math facts and think deeper:) Thanks for the reminder:) Going to get them now:)

Ooooh just got one!! 5 divided by 5 is 1. 1 plus 2 is 3. 3 times 8 is 24! Whew!!
DeleteI LOVE this game too but you know where it is sitting? In my game cupboard and not with my center materials! It would be a great challenge especially for my early finishers. Thanks for the reminder:)

Well, it looks like a fun game, but we did state testing with math today, so my math brain is fried. I did try though...fail...
