Tried It Tuesday:Teacher of the Day

I TRIED classroom jobs my first couple of years of teaching and it just didn't work for me. I had purchased a couple of job charts at teacher stores, but most of the jobs didn't apply to my classroom or were too primary. I had a hard time remembering who was in charge of each job and then I'd forget to switch the jobs at the end of the week.  So, I came up with Teacher of the Day!

This "teacher" gets this chair for the day. They have ALL the jobs: paper passer, errands, line leader, ticket collector, board eraser, Diet Coke carrier :O), anything that needs to be done that day this student gets the job. They pick their own door holder. I start the first day of school and  start in alphabetical order. I love it and they love it! So easy to keep track of.

See what everyone else has tried at my friend Holly's Tried it Tuesday! Great ideas!

  1. Neat idea! I too had a hard time with classroom jobs last year - I just couldn't figure out how to make it work so I relied on volunteers.

  2. I love this idea - I just took (ripped) down my job board because I couldn't look at it anymore and think about how ineffective it was! Thanks for this idea - this I could do!!

  3. That's a great idea. I have an awesome looking jobs wall, I was so proud of it, and this is the first year my students just couldn't handle it. They would forget to do their job, argue about it, etc. So some kids have just had yearlong jobs...but this is a neat idea.

  4. I love this idea. I always forget to redo the jobs each week and it's just another thing to keep track of. I'm going to give this a try next year.

  5. What a wonderful idea!! My classroom jobs are always changing too. Some years the kids can handle it and other times it is a mess! This is doable:)

  7. I am the worst at job charts/ behavior charts or anything that has to be changed weekly or daily. I love the Teacher of the Day idea and will be trying it this year with my 3rd graders. This school year with my 1st graders, I did classroom sherriff. I got sherriff badges from the Dollar Store and they did everything. I had about 4. Love the teacher of the day. I have two roll chairs so I don't mind giving them one. Does your teacher of the day have to meet certain qualifications or expectations such as good behavior, etc?

  9. Teaching is neither always easy as people expecting it. I think the best method of teaching is make thorough research about topic which you want to discuss in class and then write a note and highlight important points.
